Why I Started J&L Nexus Ventures PLT: A Feeling Check-In

There comes a point where frustration stops being something you vent about and starts being something you act on. For me, that point arrived on an ordinary workday, in the middle of an entirely avoidable mess.

I will keep the details anonymous, because the individuals do not matter. The pattern does.

When titles replace accountability.

On a recent project, direction came from someone carrying a product title but practising none of the discipline behind it. No clear requirements. No written decisions. No ownership when things went wrong. What there was plenty of: confident-sounding technical instructions, vague communication, and finger-pointing when the confident instructions led exactly where the engineers said they would lead.

The most telling part was the source of that confidence. AI tools — the same class of tools I use every day — were being used to generate technical directives without the grounding to evaluate them. An AI answer, pasted with authority, sent the team down the wrong path. Time was burned. Trust eroded. And when the dust settled, responsibility belonged to everyone except the person who gave the instruction.

Let me be clear about something, because I work with AI deeply: this is not an AI problem. AI in the hands of someone who takes responsibility for verifying, testing, and owning the outcome is a genuine multiplier. AI in the hands of someone avoiding accountability is just a faster way to be wrong with confidence. The tool was never the issue. The absence of professionalism was.

Why this one stung differently.

I have survived layoffs, reorgs, and bad quarters. Those are structural — painful, but impersonal. This was different. Watching unserious work being rewarded while careful work was overruled made me ask a question I had been postponing for years: why am I still renting out my standards to organisations that do not share them?

I was not angry at any one person. I was frustrated at a dynamic I kept encountering: unclear communication, decisions without owners, and the quiet expectation that the people who care most will absorb the cost of the people who care least.

That frustration clarified something. I did not want a better seat at someone else's table. I wanted my own table — one where professionalism is the floor, not the ceiling.

So I built it: J&L Nexus Ventures PLT.

My younger brother and I have set up our own LLP — J&L Nexus Ventures PLT. Registration is complete and the firm has started operating. The name carries both of us in it, and that is deliberate. There are people in this world you trust because of contracts, and people you trust because of character proven over a lifetime. Siblings, when the relationship is right, are the second kind. I would rather build slowly with someone I trust completely than build fast with people I have to verify constantly.

Starting with family is not nostalgia. It is strategy. The scarcest resource in any venture is not capital or ideas — it is aligned people who do what they say. I have that on day one.

AI-enabled work, done properly.

One of the founding convictions of the firm is something my recent experience confirmed from the negative side: an AI-enabled workflow, practised with discipline, genuinely increases productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency. I know this because I live it — agentic coding workflows, documented decisions, automated verification. The difference is ownership. Every AI-assisted output gets reviewed, tested, and signed for by a human who understands it. That is the standard I hold myself to, and now it is the standard of the company.

Bigger than IT.

J&L Nexus Ventures is not just an IT vehicle. Technology is where we start, because it is what I know best — but the vision is deliberately wider. Over time, I want to bring in my other siblings from their own fields: investment, property, warehouse and logistics, service lines. Each sibling brings a domain; the LLP brings the shared structure, governance, and trust to compound them.

A family conglomerate built patiently, one honest venture at a time. That is the bigger vision. Not a startup chasing a valuation event — a house, in the old sense of the word. A name that means something to the people who carry it.

What the frustration taught me.

I am grateful for the bad dynamic, in a strange way. Comfort never forced me to incorporate. Dysfunction did. It showed me precisely what I refuse to normalise: instructions without understanding, authority without accountability, teamwork without trust.

If you are sitting in a similar frustration right now, here is my check-in back to you: do not just endure it, and do not just vent about it. Ask what it is telling you to build. Then find the people you trust with your name — for me, that was my brother — and start.

J&L Nexus Ventures PLT exists because I got tired of complaining about how work should be done. Now I get to show it. You can find us at jlv.group — we are just getting started.
